Job Description


The Marketing Specialist I assists with the creation, execution and evaluation of marketing programs and leverages a variety of marketing channels (e.g., email, SMS and print) to drive incremental sessions to JCPenney Portraits. This position partners with cross-functional teams to execute ongoing marketing programs that drive new and returning customers to our studios.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes email tool (e.g., SalesForce Marketing Cloud, Selligent Marketing Cloud, Send Grid) to pull and segment email customer lists, load creative and execute email campaigns.
  • Writes creative briefs for email, SMS and some print campaigns, ensuring accuracy of content and alignment with brand standards.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop marketing programs that drive new and returning customers to our studios and ecommerce sites to achieve business goals.
  • Maintains the accuracy and integrity of customer email data.
  • Manages the promotional calendar, implements promotional and automated email and text campaigns using HTML and data segmentation to drive new and repeat business.
  • Analyzes engagement metrics of email, SMS and print campaigns to make marketing campaign recommendations to enable effective decisions by business leaders.
  • Stay up-to-date on email marketing best practices and trends to ensure strong deliverability, inbox placement and engagement (open/click through) results.
  • Safeguards all customer, employee and company proprietary and personal information ensuring customer and employee data is kept confidential at all times.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with print marketing segmentation and performance initiatives.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and makes recommendations.
  • Performs other projects or miscellaneous duties as requested or assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field or equivalent related experience.


  • 1 - 2 years in email marketing.
  • Working in a cross-functional environment.

Other (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Experience working with enterprise email platforms/tools (Constant Contact, Drip, Emma, Bronto, Marketo, Responsys, Adobe Experience Manager, Pardot, Eloqua, Hubspot, Litmus, other)
  • Basic HTML experience required, experience building HTML email templates preferred.
  • SQL experience preferred.
  • Graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop) skills, strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Detail oriented in the execution and follow-up of work.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently as well as balance and execute against multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
