Job Description

The role of the Photography Sales and Operations Manager is to build photography teams to adequately support all scheduled photography in assigned areas. The PSOM will develop a staffing plan, recruit, select and train team members. He or she will provide ongoing photographic and portrait sales training to photography team members to deliver target sales average(s). The PSOM also leads the implementation of corporate initiatives affecting photography teams. He or she ensures the delivery of effective operations support, including: photography quality, customer service, employee issues, organizational effectiveness and communication.

The PSOM will manage 6 - 8 teams (20 to 45 indirect photography team members) and oversee geography in the Midwest covering multiple states. We welcome candidates who reside within the territory (including candidates from [Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota]).


Photography Team Staffing and Coverage

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of staffing plan for assigned zones
  • Establish and execute recruiting plan to generate sufficient candidate pool
  • Interview and select candidates in a timely manner to meet needs

Deliver Training – new hire and on-going

  • Set-up and monitor each new hire’s training progress in accordance with company expectations.
  • Schedule and deliver effective classroom new hire training in accordance with company expectations.
  • Schedule and personally deliver or monitor “on the job” training for each new hire in accordance with company expectations.

Operations Support

  • Monitor photography schedules and ensure coverage plans are in place
  • Actively communicate with all sales reps supported
  • Perform necessary administrative duties, including weekly itinerary and staffing projections
  • Provide high customer service levels to meet the needs of the customer and guests.

Expense Management

  • Manage personal travel and office expenses within assigned budget
  • Manage photography team travel and expense costs within designated territory budgets
  • Monitor and manage special pay within territory targets

Development of Photography Team Members

  • Actively promote and support photography contests to team members.
  • Utilize Photography Feedback System (PFS) to evaluate and provide coaching to all assigned photography team members on a regular basis
  • Recruit and develop candidates for training roles as needed within assigned areas.

Drive Portrait Product Marketing

  • Implement new products, sales procedures and photography procedures.
  • Provide instruction and training for new product roll-outs as requested

Manage Photography team performance in assigned areas

  • Establish and communicate performance expectations to deliver targeted results.
  • Attain performance requirements focused on key performance indicators and revenue.
  • Ensure photography quality standards are met or exceeded.
  • Document and communicate performance issues.
  • Provide support, guidance and instruction to field photographers and sales staff.



  • Four-year degree with major in Business Administration/or equivalent experience.


  • Minimum of five years experience managing people, ideally in a distance management setting
  • At least five years experience in retail/commission-based sales
  • Minimum of two years professional photography experience
  • At least two years proven experience delivering training

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong team building, communication, problem solving persuasiveness, leadership, motivation abilities and knowledge of the photographic industry desirable.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of time during seasonal peaks.
