Job Description

Support all areas of Publishing with the ability to function in all roles within the department. Job duties include but are not limited to those listed below.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible to ensure all customers request are completed and all documents are setup to correct specifications for the final printing of the product using desktop publishing software.

  • Produce Activity and Family sections on electronic publishing system, assuring all products meet customer quality expectations.
  • Apply enhancements by selecting fonts, PMS colors, frames and borders for family section.
  • If applicable, airbrushing or color correct images; may remove unwanted items per customer request.
  • Select, size, and crop photographs furnished by customer for family section.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proof/correction book or resource material is free from typographical errors, layout errors and prepared per customer instructions.
  • Paginate directory
  • Complete and correct any changes sent in by the customer.
  • Create new PDFs of all pages
  • Check all specs for correction books to prepare documents for printing.
  • Make sure all pages and pictures are set up properly for printing.
  • Maintain proper file location and name conventions.
  • Uses comprehensive judgment, trouble-shooting, decision-making, problem identification, problem solving and standard work to meet individual and team quality and productivity standards within the production environment.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements.
  • Uses safe work habits including proper lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, twisting, and driving techniques while adhering to all safety rules and guidelines.
  • Adhere to department SOPs and Work Instructions

 

 Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other projects or miscellaneous duties as requested or assigned

 Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates Degree in Graphic Arts and English a plus

 Experience

  • Working with electronic files
  • Desktop publishing experience
  • Working in a team based environment
  • 1 to 2 years experience in production processing environment
  • Experience assessing directory/resource color and quality through visual acuity (color test 30 or lower) a plus

    • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Ability to provide guidance to fellow team members completing daily tasks and responsibilities as needed.

  • Ability to view computer monitor for 8-10 hour shifts
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • PC based.
  • Experience with desktop publishing software such as InDesign, MS Publisher, CS4 or higher, Quark and Photoshop.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including typing.
  • Ability to work well in team environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and flex within the work unit to maintain the appropriate pace and tempo.
  • Ability to recognize, adapt to, and help facilitate continuous change with motivation and willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques and/or knowledge of the production environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform all tasks within the work unit.
