Job Description

The VP Lifetouch Engineering

This role is responsible for technology development systems, processes, software design and development within the company. The VP Engineering plays an integral role in setting the company's strategic direction, development and future growth. This role oversees Lifetouch overall technology development and technology utilization plan and manages all information technology development resources at Lifetouch. This person will be responsible for technology innovation, cost effectiveness, delivery timelines and quality. The VP will also be responsible for providing technical advice, guidance, direction and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures. This individual will promote the interfacing and control of the organizations present technology and the dissemination of technical information and recommendations throughout the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs Lifetouch's strategic direction, development and future growth and monitors changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain competitive advantage; analyzes the costs, value and risks of information technology to advise management and suggest actions.
  • Identifies, compares, selects and implements technology solutions to meet current and future needs; determines Lifetouch's long- term system's needs.
  • Works closely with technology and business leaders at Lifetouch and Shutterfly to define and deliver new products and enhancements; uses stakeholder feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology.
  • Sets strategy and direction for cloud based platform that employs service-oriented architecture to enable growth in current and new customers.
  • Supports and improves customized technology solutions supporting Lifetouch's business strategies and products to drive improved customer experience, superior functionality, greater operational efficiency, and more effective maintenance/support.
  • Leads planning, managing and executing initiatives to develop the platform services balancing the needs of new and existing customers to grow the top line and enable greater profitability in the business.
  • Identifies third party technology partners to integrate, leverage as appropriate.
  • Builds organizational capabilities around appropriate standardization of development tools, quality, release and ops process models.
  • Establishes metrics, targets and governance processes to ensure development delivers against success criteria such as scope, schedule, resources, and budget.
  • Works closely with Shutterfly CTO and CPO organization as appropriate.
  • Engages and aligns top talent through mentoring, hands-on architectural leadership and career management.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other projects or miscellaneous duties as requested or assigned.

Education

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree preferred

Experience

  • 15+ years' experience as a VP of Engineering or similar level leadership role, developing technology strategies, to accomplish business goals set by the executive team

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Platform thinker, with strategic thinking and strong product and business orientation
  • Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy
  • Experience with some combination of marketing technology, digital asset creation, digital manufacturing, platform development, customer interaction
  • Experience in Cloud migration, technical-debt reduction & re-platforming technology stack with micro services & SOA
  • Experience supporting senior technical partnership discussions with customer
  • Experience in leading teams and building relationships with people at a variety of levels
  • Monitor KPIs and budgets to assess technological performance
